لشخص ولا مَخدومَه أبدَ الدَهرِ

لشخص ولا مَخدومَه أبدَ الدَهرِ

If you wish for a pleasant life, do not be a servant

If you wish a pleasant life, be not a servant

To anyone, nor be the one he serves, ever.

To any person, nor ever to poverty a slave.

وحاول كَفافاً تَنجُ من كُلفة الغِنى

وحاول كَفافاً تَنجُ من كُلفة الغِنى

وتَخلُص من الذُل المُلازم لِلفَقرِ

وتَخلُص من الذُل المُلازم لِلفَقرِ

And seek enough to live on; you will escape the burden of wealth

Strive only for sufficiency, escape the burden of wealth,

And be free of the humiliation that clings to poverty.

And shun the misery that clings forever to the poor.
