حَتّىuntil إِذاwhen ماemphatic particle تَّقارَبواthey drew near هَجَرواthey forsook
حَتّى إِذا ما تَّقارَبوا هَجَروا
They were far away, so I kept hoping for them;
They were far away, so I hoped for them;
until, when they drew near, they forsook me.

فَالبُعدُso distance مِنهُمfrom them عَلىwith رَجائِهِمُhope for them
فَالبُعدُ مِنهُم عَلى رَجائِهِمُ
أَنفَعُmore beneficial مِنthan قُربِهِمtheir nearness إِذاwhen هَجَرواthey forsook
أَنفَعُ مِن قُربِهِم إِذا هَجَروا
Thus distance from them, while still hoping for them,
So distance from them, while I still hope for them,
does more good than their nearness when they forsake me.
Is better than nearness to them when they forsake me.
