عَلىin رُغمِdefiance of واشيهاher tale-bearer وَغَيظِand the vexation of الكَواشِحِthe spiteful
And never did my eyes twitch without my seeing her,
My eyes moved not, but I saw her there
In defiance of her tale-bearer and to the vexation of the spiteful.
Despite her slanderers' rage and angry stare
فَيالَيتَso, if only عَينيmy eye طالَlasted long مِنهاfrom it إِختِلاجُهاits twitching

If only my eye's twitching would last long!
Would that her sight might ever stir my eyes
For many a fine day of pleasure has been mine through that.
So many wasted days would turn to prize
