لاموا عَلى كُثر البُكا ناظري

لاموا عَلى كُثر البُكا ناظري

وَلَم يَروا منظرَه الناضِرا

وَلَم يَروا منظرَه الناضِرا

They reproached my eye for weeping so much,

Yet they had not seen his radiant appearance.

وَلَو رآه عاذلي لا رأى

وَلَو رآه عاذلي لا رأى

أَصبحَ لا أَصبحَ لي عاذِرا

أَصبحَ لا أَصبحَ لي عاذِرا

And if my reproacher saw him—may he never see!—

He would become—may he never see morning!—one who excuses me.
