مرنَّحswaying القدّthe figure منwho ثَنىcurved لكfor you عطفيكyour two sides
ومنand who أَعارlent القَناthe spears اِعتدالَكyour upright poise
O swaying figure, who curved your sides for you?
The slender branch sways for you, bending its arms
And who lent the spears your upright poise?
And the vine straightens its posture to greet you
نهبتyou plundered كلَّall الورىmankind بصارمwith the keen sword لحظَيكyour two glances
فاتنيmy enchanter منwho بذاthus قَضىdecreed لَكfor you
You plundered all mankind with the keen sword of your two glances;
With your bewitching glances you've plundered all hearts
O my enchanter, who decreed this for you?
Leaving me bereft of the promise you made
أَسعرتyou kindled نارfire الحشىthe heart بحُمرةwith the redness خدّيكyour two cheeks
فاِطفهاso quench it منfrom لَمىthe lips' dark hue زلالَكyour limpid water
You kindled the heart's fire with the redness of your cheeks;
With the rouge of your cheeks you ignited my passion
So quench it with the limpid water of your dusky lips.
So douse it with the fresh water of your lips
اللَهGod فيconcerning مهجةٍa heart غدتhas come to be فيin كفَّيكyour two palms
شفَّهاhas wasted it away بالأَسىwith sorrow مِطالَكyour stalling
For God's sake, have mercy on a heart now in your hands;
My heart lies wounded in your cruel hands
Your stalling has wasted it away with sorrow.
Heal it with the balm of your tenderness
لَوif تَعلَمyou knew اليومtoday ماwhat بهاin it منfrom عينَيكyour two eyes
ماnot قَضىwould have decreed بالجَفاfor estrangement دَلالَكyour coyness
If you knew today what it suffers from your eyes,
If only you knew what torment your eyes inflict
Your coyness would not have decreed estrangement.
You'd not be so harsh and indifferent
قَلبيmy heart مَدىthroughout الدهرtime حائرbewildered فيover أَمريكyour two states
منfrom بعادكyour absence ومنand from وصالكunion with you
My heart is forever bewildered by your two states:
My heart bewildered, for ages loving you
By your absence and by union with you.
Whether parted or united
لويتyou deferred payment of دَينthe debt الهوىlove كليِّlike the twisting of صُدغيكyour two temple-locks
مَنwho فعلhas done ياO جَديyoung goat فعالَكyour deeds
You deferred love's debt, like the twisting of your temple-locks;
I've twisted the faith of love to match your whim
Who, O young goat, has done deeds like yours?
Who acts, my beauty, but as you ordain?
ورحتَand you went on تسبيtaking captive النُهىthe minds بساحرwith the enchantment of جَفنَيكyour two eyelids
هَكَذاthus يَقتَضيrequires جمالكyour beauty
And you went on taking minds captive with the magic of your eyelids;
With your alluring eyes you rob virtue of its pride
This is what your beauty demands.
So beautiful you are, you've every right

The full moon of dark nights and the sun are your two bracelets
O, radiant idol, captor of my heart
In splendor; and Suha, your sandals.
In joy or sorrow I'm your willing slave
