    O eye, this is the Chosen One, Ahmad,

    The best of humankind and the most glorious master.

    دونَ عُلاها الشَمسُ والفرقدُ

    And this dome has shone forth;

    Below its loftiness are the sun and Farqad.

    فيها المُنى والسؤل وَالمقصدُ

    And this Rawdah has blossomed;

    In it are hopes, desire, and the goal.

    And this is Taybah; fragrance has wafted to us

    From its quarters, the hillside, and the gharqad shrubs.

    And its Blue Spring was lovely, though no

    Antimony kohl or kohl-wand had touched it.

    So why do my sorrows not clear away?

    And why do my fires not die down?

    Here are the prayer ground and al-Baqi', where

    The watering place and water-source are sweet.

    فالأَنجمُ الزُهرُ لها حُسَّدُ

    A land flourishing in glory and towering in eminence;

    The radiant stars envy it.

    Its pebbles are pearls, and its stones

    And its soil are gems and gold.

    The moons and shooting stars wished that

    Their forelocks were bound there.

    What harm, then, to one whose eye is lined

    With its dust, if antimony kohl should shun it?

    Within it the distinctions of excellence are gathered,

    And its excellence is singular when described.

    The House and its corners envy its good fortune,

    As do Zamzam, the Hijr, and the mosque.

    ملائكُ اللَه به سُجَّدُ

    A shrine of felicity, whose merit shines;

    God's angels prostrate themselves there.

    And why not, when it is the station of one

    Who has a seat atop the heights of glory?

    And the dwelling of the chosen one of Hashim—

    How fine the dwelling and the shrine!

    The best of Quraysh in lineage among humankind,

    Through whom stock and ancestry were ennobled.

    And God's chosen one, through whom have risen

    Eminence, glory, and lordship.

    وهو الأَعزُّ الأَشرفُ الأَسعدُ

    His radiant brow dispels the darkness of night;

    And he is the mightiest, the noblest, the most fortunate.

    The Opener, the Seal, the sea of bounty,

    And its land, and the straightest path.

    God favored him above His messengers,

    And all the messengers bear witness to him.

    أَبصَرَها الأَكمَهُ والأَرمَدُ

    His signs are like the sun in its radiance;

    The blind from birth and the sore-eyed have seen them.

    The tree trunk yearned for him when parted,

    And in his hands the stone glorified God.

    And water from between his fingers

    Flowed until those coming to drink had drunk their fill.

    And the moon split for him in obedience,

    And through obedience came to be sought for blessing.

    And the sun returned for him after night had come,

    And its willing return for him was more praiseworthy.

    And how many signs he has among humankind,

    To which white and black submitted!

    Their account was no fabrication,

    And dawn is neither hidden nor denied.

    So, O Messenger of God, O best of those

    Whom travelers to Tihamah and Najd seek,

    Hear—may my soul ransom you, O listener—

    A suppliant's plea, his heart heavy with grief.

    لعلَّ رُحماكَ له تُنجِدُ

    He called upon you, with anguish surrounding him;

    Perhaps your mercy will come to his aid.

    My captivity has dragged on, and sorrow has dragged on,

    And in this I have no comforter.

    وَكَيفَ لا يَفنى ولا يَنفَدُ

    Patience has run out under what has befallen me;

    And how could it not perish and run out?

    To the rescue, to the rescue, O my master!

    For you are the refuge and the goal.

    Love for you is my treasure on the day when no father

    Can avail, and no mother can help.

    And in both worlds you are my refuge,

    When the nearest and the farthest turn away.

    علَّ حَراراتِ الأَسى تَبرُدُ

    So lift my affliction, my master, without delay;

    Perhaps the burning heat of sorrow will cool.

    And draw me near you as a neighbor, for

    My bed and resting place have grown too narrow for me.

    And settle me in Taybah as my home,

    For it was formerly my birthplace.

    And, by my life, it is my goal and my desire,

    Not al-Ablaq al-Fard, nor Thahmad.

    Then may God's peace—glory be to Him—

    Pour upon you, constant and everlasting,

    And upon your radiant, noble family, those

    To whom the accounts of glory are attributed,

    As long as a woodland dove warbles in the garden,

    And as long as its swaying branches flourish,

    And as long as a reciter goes forth chanting to us:

    O eye, this is the Chosen One, Ahmad.
