بعَودِهم بعد التسلُّب أَوراقا
May what has withered of my union's bough be clothed
Perhaps, perhaps due to my reunion there will be
in leaves upon their return, after being stripped bare.
New leaves on their branches after they were stripped bare.
فَلَمfor ... not يصفُbe clear ليfor me منfrom بَعدهمafter their departure قطُّever مورِدٌa watering place
فَلَم يصفُ لي من بَعدهم قطُّ مورِدٌ
ولاnor لذَّwas sweet ليto me عَيشٌlife وإِنand even if طابَwas pleasant أَوor راقاwas delightful
ولا لذَّ لي عَيشٌ وإِن طابَ أَو راقا
For since they left, no watering place has ever been clear for me,
Since their departure no spring has described itself to me,
Nor has life been sweet to me, however pleasant or delightful.
Nor has life been sweet though it seemed pleasant and fair.
