Is it Nu‘man's fragrance that the south wind brought,

or did it travel by night, bearing greetings from Nu‘m?

and clothe the flanks of those hills

in robes embroidered by the freely streaming rain.

and before her sanctuary they unsheathe swords,

keen-edged, dripping with swift, dreadful death.
