Who will aid a sorrowful man, love-stricken and in pain,

Whom longing for the dwellings has wasted away?

What are dwellings to me, unless they are

The abodes of Salma, the lady of the veil?

I have not forgotten a time that passed there,

While our company was still unbroken.

I wept in yearning on the day of parting, and did not

Spare any of my tears for the memory of union.

Is there, then, anyone to reunite that company,

Or is there any return to that time?
