And whose worth is marked by noble renown,

وكريما بحاتم الجود يزري

بالعطا الوافر المديد السريع

بالعطا الوافر المديد السريع

And noble one who puts Hatim to shame in generosity,

O beneficent one, rivaling Hatem in generosity,

With abundant, enduring, swift giving.

With abundant, unstinting, swift gifts.

جد بما ينتفي البرد عني

جد بما ينتفي البرد عني

وأجرني فالبرد أوهى ضلوعي

وأجرني فالبرد أوهى ضلوعي

Give generously what will banish the cold from me,

Make true efforts to ward off the cold from me,

And protect me, for the cold has weakened my ribs—

And deliver me, for the cold has weakened my ribs.

كسوة يحسن التجمل فيها

في مصيف وفي شتا وربيع

في مصيف وفي شتا وربيع

Clothing in which I may dress handsomely,

A garment, seemly to don,

In summer, winter, and spring.

وإذا ما الجديد عز لحظي

وإذا ما الجديد عز لحظي

فأنا منك قانع بالخليع

فأنا منك قانع بالخليع

And if no new garment falls to my lot,

And if the new eludes my gaze,

Then I am content with a cast-off from you.

From you I'll be content with the worn.
