فعزّ بي ببروق ما بها مطر

I set out seeking the bounty of one whose appearance delighted me.

He overpowered me with lightning flashes that held no rain.

ثم أثنيت وقالت لي محاسنه

ما أنت أول سار غرّه القمرُ

ما أنت أول سار غرّه القمرُ

Then I offered praise, and his charms said to me:

“You are not the first night traveler whom the moon deceived.”
