And be gentle in love with the lamented one.

And whenever you sharpen the swords of separation,

Do not kill the love-worn without necessity.

Despite the difficulty he sees in you.

Can withstand the dragged and the raised—the genitive and accusative?

Fair-skinned, she has shamed, through the governing force of her stature,

A tawny lance and a supple bough.

At dawn I visited the garden of her cheek for a stroll,

And won a share of her roses.

I remained enthralled by her and her cup,

Until, in love, she gave me my drink.
