  1. ومن عجب بأني بين قوم

    تعيش كلابهم وأموت جوعا

    And it is a wonder that I am among people

    Whose dogs live while I die of hunger.

  2. ولا مولى ارى فيهم كريما

    كأن الناس قد ماتوا جميعا

    And among them I see no generous patron,

    As though the people had all died.
