Peace upon Hims, though decay has altered
her familiar haunts, where I attained my wishes.
وحُقّand is due لَهاto her مِنِّيfrom me السَّلامُthe greeting لأنّنيbecause I
وَرَدتُI came to بِهَاin her ماءَthe water الشَبيبةِof youth صافِياclear
And my greeting is her due, for I
came there to the clear water of youth.

And on the cheeks of time there was then a lustre,
as polishing gave lustre to the Yemeni sword.
