O my two friends, with your mounts just before dawn,

    turn aside to al-Jazira al-Khadra,

where the pool shook its flanks because

the pebbles' fingertips had let it slip,

and began, between its banks, to turn

from a white pearl into limpid water.

And rain embroidered its banks, so it rivaled

the stars of heaven with its blossoms.

And the bough's flank swayed in pride

to the song of the ash-gray dove.

And Abu al-Walid appeared; prostrate fell

the stars of al-Jawza before his radiance.

And he rose to the rank of vizier, until

he took his place as a crown upon the viziers' heads.

So joy be yours, al-Jazira! What

radiance and honor you have gained from him!

So protect him from calamities until

you bring about occasions for us to meet.
