سَبْعٌ لِيَ اليَوْمَ أيا بُغْيَتي

سَبْعٌ لِيَ اليَوْمَ أيا بُغْيَتي

لَم يَبْدُ لي مَنْظَرُكَ الأجْمَلُ

لَم يَبْدُ لي مَنْظَرُكَ الأجْمَلُ

Today marks seven nights for me, O my heart's desire,

Seven days for me today, O my beloved

without your fairest form appearing to me.

Your beautiful face has not appeared to me

ماذا الجفاءُ اللهَ في مُغْرَمٍ

ماذا الجفاءُ اللهَ في مُغْرَمٍ

أدْمُعُهُ مِنْ لَوْعَةٍ تَهْطِلُ

أدْمُعُهُ مِنْ لَوْعَةٍ تَهْطِلُ

Why this coldness? For God's sake, have mercy on a lover

What is this aloofness, by God, for a lover

whose tears pour down from anguish.

Whose tears from yearning pour down

أيَظْهَرُ البَدْرُ عَلى بُعْدِهِ

أيَظْهَرُ البَدْرُ عَلى بُعْدِهِ

وأنتَ بالقُرْبِ ولا تُفْضِلُ

وأنتَ بالقُرْبِ ولا تُفْضِلُ

Does the full moon appear despite its distance,

Does the full moon appear from afar

while you are near, yet grant no favor?

While you are near, yet do not prefer
