سَبْعٌ لِيَ اليَوْمَ أيا بُغْيَتي

سَبْعٌ لِيَ اليَوْمَ أيا بُغْيَتي

لَم يَبْدُ لي مَنْظَرُكَ الأقْمَرُ

لَم يَبْدُ لي مَنْظَرُكَ الأقْمَرُ

Today marks seven nights for me, O my heart's desire;

Seven days have passed, O my beloved,

your moon-bright face has not appeared to me.

since I saw your moonlike face.

ماذا الجفاءُ اللهَ في مُغْرَمٍ

ماذا الجفاءُ اللهَ في مُغْرَمٍ

أدْمُعُهُ مِنْ لَوْعَةٍ تَقْطُرُ

أدْمُعُهُ مِنْ لَوْعَةٍ تَقْطُرُ

Why this coldness? For God's sake, have mercy on a lover

What wrong have I done, that you shun me so cruelly,

whose tears drip from anguish.

that tears of anguish flow down my cheeks?

أيَظْهَرُ البَدْرُ عَلى بُعْدِهِ

أيَظْهَرُ البَدْرُ عَلى بُعْدِهِ

وأنتَ بالقُرْبِ ولا تَظْهَرُ

وأنتَ بالقُرْبِ ولا تَظْهَرُ

Does the full moon appear despite its distance,

The moon appears from afar,

while you are near, yet do not appear?

while you are near, yet remain hidden from me.
