سَبْعٌ لِيَ اليَوْمَ أيا بُغْيَتي

سَبْعٌ لِيَ اليَوْمَ أيا بُغْيَتي

لَم يَبْدُ لي مَنْظَرُكَ الأعْجَبُ

لَم يَبْدُ لي مَنْظَرُكَ الأعْجَبُ

Today marks seven [nights] for me, O my desire;

Seven years today, O my beloved

your most wondrous countenance has not appeared to me.

Your beautiful face has not stopped amazing me

ماذا الجفاءُ اللهَ في مُغْرَمٍ

ماذا الجفاءُ اللهَ في مُغْرَمٍ

أدْمُعُهُ مِنْ لَوْعَةٍ تَسْكُبُ

أدْمُعُهُ مِنْ لَوْعَةٍ تَسْكُبُ

What is this coldness? Fear God concerning a lovesick man,

What is this aloofness, by God, towards a lover

whose tears pour forth from burning anguish.

Whose tears of anguish pour forth

أيَظْهَرُ البَدْرُ عَلى بُعْدِهِ

أيَظْهَرُ البَدْرُ عَلى بُعْدِهِ

وأنتَ بالقُرْبِ ولا تَغْرُبُ

وأنتَ بالقُرْبِ ولا تَغْرُبُ

Does the full moon appear despite its distance,

Does the moon appear from afar

while you are nearby and do not set?

While you are near, yet unreachable
