Take what remains of my soul and erase all trace.

Your approval is enough for me; leave aside whoever blames or excuses me.

O distant ones, whom my hopes draw near,

For their beauty has neither vanished from me nor been concealed.

Why do I see you befriending me with estrangement?

Suppose I have done wrong—here I have come to apologize.

I am the tormented lover, so have mercy on my lovesick anguish.

And gaze again and again at my wasted body.

You will see a sorrowful man whose traits have become renowned in love.

Alas for one renowned in love for his traits!
