أوْلىmore fitting لَكَfor you القَلبُthe heart أُفقاًas a horizon واضِحَclear الفَلَقِdaybreak
O full moon, you soar above the gaze from a horizon;
O full moon that rises above the horizon from my glance,
The heart is a fitter horizon for you, bright with dawn.
My heart is more deserving to be your horizon, clear and pure.
بِمُهْجَتيwith my life's blood عائِدٌa returning visitor عادَreturned الزَّمانُtime بهِwith him
فعادَso returned عِيدُthe festival الرِّضىof contentment والبِشْرِand gladness فيin نَسَقِharmony
I would give my life's blood for a returning visitor, with whom time returned;
With my love returning, time itself has returned,
So the festival of contentment and gladness returned in harmony.
So the feast of contentment and good tidings has returned in sequence.
جَرَىran بهِwith him أشْقَرٌa chestnut steed للوعْدِto the promised meeting فيin طَلَقٍa gallop

A chestnut steed bore him at a gallop to the promised meeting;
With it came one blond with promise in ease,
And oh, how minds raced in that gallop!
So excellent is the flow of bounty in that ease.

فيon الأرضِthe earth كالشَّمْسِlike the sun إذwhen تُهويit sinks عنfrom الأُفُقِthe horizon
Until, when he arrived, he leaned down to embrace me
Until when he who I love comes to embrace me,
On the earth, like the sun as it sinks below the horizon.
On earth like the sun when it descends below the horizon.
كأنَّماas though الطِّرْفُthe noble steed أُفقٌa horizon شَمْسُهُits sun غَربتْhad set
فذلكَthen that اللَّونُhue فيهِupon it حُمْرَةُthe redness الشَّفقِof twilight
As though the noble steed were a horizon whose sun had set,
As if my glance were a horizon whose sun has set,
So that hue upon it was the crimson of twilight.
And that color in it is the redness of sunset.
