Is that your face, gleaming amid the black veils,

or a full moon revealed in the deep darkness?

And is that your blue shawl encircling it,

or a halo telling of that light?

And is this the mole’s brown hue, or a mark of ghaliya perfume

on the page of a cheek inscribed with the meaning of beauty?

And is that a mouth’s string of pearls, its saliva sweet and fragrant,

or a flowering bough showered with rosewater?

And your slender-waisted, gracefully tall figure is a bough upon a dune,

sweeping away every forsaken lover with a yearning heart.
