إنْ تَذُمَّ الحَسُودَ ذَمَّكَ جَهْراً

إنْ تَذُمَّ الحَسُودَ ذَمَّكَ جَهْراً

أو تَنَلْ منهُ نالَ مِنْكَ وَغيّا

أو تَنَلْ منهُ نالَ مِنْكَ وَغيّا

If you disparage the envious man, he disparages you openly;

If the envious blame you openly

Or if you attack him, he attacks you noisily.

Or get something from you deceitfully

فإذا ما سَمَوْتَهُ بِكَمالٍ

فإذا ما سَمَوْتَهُ بِكَمالٍ

نِلْتَ منهُ ولَمْ ينَلْ مِنكَ شَيّا

نِلْتَ منهُ ولَمْ ينَلْ مِنكَ شَيّا

But if you surpass him in excellence,

Then when you treat him with perfection

You hurt him, while he does you no harm at all.

You gain from him but he gains nothing from you
