بِحَقِّby the sanctity of فَضْلِthe merit of الرَّسولِthe Messenger سُوْلِيmy heart's desire
بَرِّدْcool بِرُوحِwith the breath of الوِصالِunion صَاليmy burning
By the Messenger's merit, O my heart's desire,
By the right of the Messenger's grace, comfort me
Cool my burning with the breath of union.
Return my longing soul with union’s spirit
سَبَىtook captive سَناthe radiance of حُسْنِكُمْyour beauty فؤاديmy heart
ماليwhat have I? وماand what لِلْجَمالِfor beauty مَالِيwhat ails me?
The radiance of your beauty took my heart captive.
Your beauty has captivated my heart
What have I to do with beauty—what ails me?
I have nothing, and the beauty has no possessions
ياO ظَبْيُgazelle هَبْgrant ليto me رِضاكَyour favor عَلِّيperhaps I may
أبْراI recover بِهِthrough it مِنْfrom خَبالِthe derangement of بالِيmy mind
O gazelle, grant me your favor; perhaps I may
O gazelle, grant me your acceptance
Recover through it from my mind's derangement.
With it I will cure my afflictions and worries
أيْأسْتُI made despair فيكَover you العَذُولَthe reproacher مِنّيof me
تَرَفُّعاًrising above عَنْaway from مَقالِthe words of قاليmy hater
I made the reproacher despair of me over you,
Have I ever shunned you out of arrogance
Rising above my hater's words.
And turned away from my words' implications
هَلْshould? أقْتَفيI follow فيconcerning المِلاحِthe beautiful ones لاحِa censurer
وأهْيَفيand my slender-waisted beloved فيamong العَوالِthe lofty ones والِيa ruler
Should I follow a censurer concerning the fair,
Should I gather smiles during hardships
While my slender-waisted beloved reigns among the lofty?
And collects intimacies amid estrangements
