والقلب من سطوات البين مذعور
On the day the clan departed from Iḍam, I was like—
As if I were on the day the neighbor parted from an abode
my heart terrified by separation’s assaults—
And the heart was alarmed by the severities of separation

تبكي عليه اشتياقاً وهو مأسور
a gray dove that kept cooing at the loss of her mate,
Ruka'a remained lamenting the loss of a friend
weeping for him in longing, while he was captive.
Weeping for him longingly while he was imprisoned

O neighbors of the clan, is there any return? Perhaps then
O neighbor of the abode, is there any return so mayhap
one drunk on longing may awaken from its raptures.
He will awaken from the slumbers of ardent longing drunk
اذاif طفرتُI leap منfrom الدنياthe world بقربكمُthrough nearness to you
اذا طفرتُ من الدنيا بقربكمُ
فكلthen every ذنبwrong جناهcommitted it الدهرTime مغفورforgiven
فكل ذنب جناه الدهر مغفور
If I leap from this world through nearness to you,
If I depart from this life in your vicinity
then every wrong committed by Time is forgiven.
Then every sin the days have brought is forgiven
