إلا وحسبتها لقلبي صَدَعت

I never beheld lightning flashing over al-Khayf

I have not seen lightning flash across the horizon,

Without thinking it had cleft my heart.

Except I thought it split open my heart.

يا من بَعِدوا لا تبعثوا طيفكمُ

يا من بَعِدوا لا تبعثوا طيفكمُ

نحوي فجفوني بعدكم ما هجعت

نحوي فجفوني بعدكم ما هجعت

O you who have gone far away, do not send your phantom

O you who are gone, do not send your specters,

Toward me, for since your departure my eyelids have not slept.

Towards me, for after you my eyes have not slept.
