  1. قالوا الحبيب شكا جعلت فداءه

    رمداً أصاب جفونه كالعندم

    They said, “The beloved complained—may I be his ransom—

    of inflammation that left his eyelids red as dragon’s-blood resin.”

  2. فأجبتم ما زال يفتك لحظه

    في مهجتي حتى تضرّج بالدم

    So you answered, “His glance kept wreaking havoc

    in my heart, until that glance was stained with blood.”
