أبَا حَكَمٍ أينَ عَهدُ الوَفَاءِ

أبَا حَكَمٍ أينَ عَهدُ الوَفَاءِ

فَقِدماً عَهدتُكَ تُعزَى إليهِ

فَقِدماً عَهدتُكَ تُعزَى إليهِ

O Abu Hakam, where is the pledge of faithfulness?

O Abu Hakam, where is the pact of loyalty?

For of old I knew you to be credited with it.

For I had made a pact with you for consolation,

وَما العُذرُ في أن أتَاكَ الرسول

وَما العُذرُ في أن أتَاكَ الرسول

فأصدَرتَهُ ضارِباً لِصَدرَيهِ

فأصدَرتَهُ ضارِباً لِصَدرَيهِ

And what excuse have you, when the messenger came to you,

What is the excuse that when the messenger came to you,

and you sent him away beating both sides of his chest?

You turned him back striking his chest?
