صنِ العَقلَ عن لحظة في هَوى

صنِ العَقلَ عن لحظة في هَوى

فان البصيرةَ طوعُ البَصَر

فان البصيرةَ طوعُ البَصَر

Guard the mind against a glance of desire;

Refrain the mind from a moment of passion

for insight is subject to sight.

For vision is subservient to sight

وغضنَّ الجفون على عِفةٍ

وغضنَّ الجفون على عِفةٍ

فإنَّ زناءَ العُيونِ النِّظر

فإنَّ زناءَ العُيونِ النِّظر

And lower the eyelids in chastity;

And lower the eyelids with modesty

for the eyes’ fornication is gazing.

For the adultery of the eyes is to gaze
