أنَا للِنَّدَامَى نُزهَة المُستمتعِ

أنَا للِنَّدَامَى نُزهَة المُستمتعِ

تَبدُو نُجُومُ سُعُودِهِم في مَطلعِ

تَبدُو نُجُومُ سُعُودِهِم في مَطلعِ

For drinking companions, I am a pleasure-seeker's delight.

I am to the regretful a joyous retreat

The stars of their good fortune appear on the horizon.

The stars of their fortune rise at first light

ما بيَّ مَوضِعُ لحظَةٍ إِلاّ احتَوَى

ما بيَّ مَوضِعُ لحظَةٍ إِلاّ احتَوَى

نَقلاً فلِي في النَّفسِ أكرَمُ مَوضِعِ

نَقلاً فلِي في النَّفسِ أكرَمُ مَوضِعِ

No spot on me where a glance falls fails to hold

No place for a moment but that it contained

Snacks; thus mine is the most honored place in the soul.

Transport, so my soul's most honored site

أنا مُستَطِيلُ الشَّكلِ إِلاّ أنَّني

أنا مُستَطِيلُ الشَّكلِ إِلاّ أنَّني

قُسِّمتُ بَينَ مُسَدَّسٍ وَمُرَبَّعِ

قُسِّمتُ بَينَ مُسَدَّسٍ وَمُرَبَّعِ

I am oblong in shape, yet I

I rectangular in shape except that I

Have been divided into hexagonal and square sections.

فَمَتَى أكُن والأقحوانُ بِمَجلسٍ

فَمَتَى أكُن والأقحوانُ بِمَجلسٍ

لم يُؤثِرِ النُّدَماءُ إِلاّ مَوضِعي

لم يُؤثِرِ النُّدَماءُ إِلاّ مَوضِعي

So whenever the chrysanthemum and I are at a gathering,

So when I am where the wise men sit

The drinking companions prefer no place but mine.

None but I did the regretful prefer there

الفَضلُ لِي وَإِن اشتَبَهنَا مَنصِباً

الفَضلُ لِي وَإِن اشتَبَهنَا مَنصِباً

وَكَفَى بِأنِّي مِن ذَوَاتش الأربَعِ

وَكَفَى بِأنِّي مِن ذَوَاتش الأربَعِ

The advantage is mine, even if we are alike in station,

Superior am I though we shared position

And it suffices that I am one of those with four legs.

And it's enough that I'm of the quadrilaterals
