1. لا تلُمني على البُكاء بدارِ

    أهلها صيّروا السّقامَ ضَجيعي

    Do not blame me for weeping over a dwelling;

    its people made sickness my bedfellow.

  2. جَعلوا لي إلى الوصالِ سبيلاً

    ثم سدوّا عليّ بابَ الرجُوعِ

    They made for me a path to union,

    then shut against me the gate of return.
