وكأنّ المُقاتلَ اغتاظَ حتّى

وكأنّ المُقاتلَ اغتاظَ حتّى

أنفذَ الصُّبحَ بالتّقحّم طَعنا

أنفذَ الصُّبحَ بالتّقحّم طَعنا

And it is as though the warrior grew enraged until

As if the warrior was enraged until

he pierced the dawn with a headlong thrust.

He dispatched the dawn with rushing stabs

والسُّهى في بناتِ نعشٍ ضميرٌ

والسُّهى في بناتِ نعشٍ ضميرٌ

بينَ أضلاعِها تَبّوأ كِنّا

بينَ أضلاعِها تَبّوأ كِنّا

And Suhā among Banāt Naʿsh is a secret

And the blades in the ribs of a bier

that has taken shelter between her ribs.

Took up lodging amidst its chest
