بأعجزَ منه أنت في العجز مُعجزُ

O inept one, no inept soul in creation

O you who are helpless in the wilderness, helpless

is more inept than he; in ineptitude, you are astounding.

With a helplessness more helpless than yours, you are amazing in helplessness

غدَوتَ أميرَ العاجزين يقودُهم

غدَوتَ أميرَ العاجزين يقودُهم

لواؤُك قد حفُّوك ساعة تَبرُزُ

لواؤُك قد حفُّوك ساعة تَبرُزُ

You have become the prince of the inept; they are led

You have become the commander of the helpless, leading them

by your banner; indeed, they surround you the moment you appear.

Your banner, they have surrounded you when you appear

حمار كما تدري بثور مُبَطَّن

وإلا فجاموسٌ بتيسٍ مُفَروَزُ

A donkey, as you know, lined with an ox,
