أجَّك حتى صرتُ أغسلُ ناظري

أجَّك حتى صرتُ أغسلُ ناظري

من النوَّم خوفاً ان يراكَ خاليا

من النوَّم خوفاً ان يراكَ خاليا

I so revere you that I have taken to washing my eye

free of sleep, for fear it might see you alone.

ولو قَدَرت نَفسِي ضَنَيتُ بسرِّكم

ولو قَدَرت نَفسِي ضَنَيتُ بسرِّكم

إذا حجبَت سرَّ الهوى عن فُؤَادِيَا

إذا حجبَت سرَّ الهوى عن فُؤَادِيَا

And if my soul could, I would guard your secret jealously;

then it would veil love’s secret from my heart.
