Be patient when a calamity befalls you;

Have patience if misfortunes overtake you,

Do not seek help from a base person, nor submit.

Do not appeal for help, neither fall submissive.

فالموتُ في ماءِ دجلةٍ غَرَقاً

أَولَى من المستَغاثِ بالضُّفدع

For death by drowning in the waters of the Tigris

Death by drowning in the waters of the Tigris,

Is preferable to seeking help from a frog.

Is far better than begging for help from frogs.
