العَيبُthe fault فيin الرجلِthe man المذكُورِwell-known مَذكُورُtalked about
العَيبُ في الرجلِ المذكُورِ مَذكُورُ
والعَيبُand the fault فيin الخاملِthe obscure man المستورِhidden مَستورُconcealed
والعَيبُ في الخاملِ المستورِ مَستورُ
A fault in a well-known man is talked about;
And a fault in an obscure, hidden man stays hidden.
كَفُوفةِlike a white speck الظُّفرِthe fingernail تَخفىgoes unnoticed مِنbecause of مَهانَتهاits insignificance
كَفُوفةِ الظُّفرِ تَخفى مِن مَهانَتها
ومِثلهاand its like فيin سَوادِthe blackness العَينِthe eye مَشهورُconspicuous
ومِثلها في سَوادِ العَينِ مَشهورُ
Like a white speck on a fingernail, unnoticed because of its insignificance;
Yet its like in the black of the eye is conspicuous.
