أحبdearest شيءthing الىto الومreproach والعذلand rebuke
أحب شيء الى الوم والعذل
كيso that أسمعI hear اسمname الذيthe one whose ذكراهremembrance of him ليfor me أملhope
كي أسمع اسم الذي ذكراه لي أمل
The dearest thing to me is reproach and rebuke,
The thing I love most is remembrance and love
The dearest thing to me is blame and reproach,
So I may hear the name of the one whose remembrance is my hope.
So I may hear the name that gave me hope
Just so I may hear the name of the one whose memory is my hope.
كأننيas though I شاربa drinker بالعذلthrough rebuke صافيةpure wine
كأنني شارب بالعذل صافية
وباسمand with the name of مولايmy lord بعدafter الشربdrinking أنتقلI eat sweetmeats
وباسم مولاي بعد الشرب أنتقل
As though, through rebuke, I were drinking pure wine,
As though I'm drinking pure sweet honey
It is as if, through their blame, I am drinking pure wine,
And after drinking, I savor my lord’s name as sweetmeats.
And with my Master's name after drinking I depart
And upon my master's name, after drinking, I take my relish.
