Questioning the riders used to bring us

The questioning of the riders was telling us

the finest tidings of Jaʿfar ibn Fallāḥ.

of Ja'far bin Falah, the sweetest news,

ثمّ التقينا فلا واللّهِ ما سمعتْ

ثمّ التقينا فلا واللّهِ ما سمعتْ

أُذني بأحسن مما قد رأى بصَري

أُذني بأحسن مما قد رأى بصَري

Then we met—and no, by God, never had

Then we met, no by God, my ears have not heard

my ear heard anything finer than what my eye saw.

Better than what my eyes had seen
