Pure red wine—they clothed it in a red cup.

They dressed her in crimson from head to toe

They had half-filled it, yet I thought it full.

They did right by her, and so she was appeased

فحسبتهم جاروا عليَّ ولم يكن

جاروا ولكني خُلِقت جبانا

So I thought they had wronged me, though they had not

I thought they had conspired against me

wronged me—but I was born a coward.

But no conspiracy there was, I was just a coward made
