قد أكملَ اللّه في ذا السيفِ حِلْيَتَهُ

قد أكملَ اللّه في ذا السيفِ حِلْيَتَهُ

واختالَ باسم معزِّ الدين مُنتَقَشا

واختالَ باسم معزِّ الدين مُنتَقَشا

God has perfected the adornment of this sword;

God has perfected in this sword His ornament,

And it strutted with Muʿizz al-Din’s name engraved upon it.

And taken the name of al-Mu'izz ad-Din with glory,

كأنّ أفعى سَقَتْ فولاذَه حُمَةً

كأنّ أفعى سَقَتْ فولاذَه حُمَةً

وألبَسَتْ جلْدَهُ من وَشيِها نَمَشَا

وألبَسَتْ جلْدَهُ من وَشيِها نَمَشَا

As though a viper had given its steel venom to drink,

As though a snake had fed its steel venom

And clothed its skin in speckles from her brocade.

And clothed its surface with the speckles of its skin.
