وذي شُطَبٍ قد جَلَّ عن كلِّ جوهرٍ

وذي شُطَبٍ قد جَلَّ عن كلِّ جوهرٍ

فليس له شَكلٌ وليس له جِنسُ

فليس له شَكلٌ وليس له جِنسُ

And a grooved blade that has surpassed every gem,

And this is a log stripped of all essence

So it has no match, nor anything of its kind—

It has no shape and has no kind

كما قابَلَتْ عينٌ من اليَمِّ لُجّةً

كما قابَلَتْ عينٌ من اليَمِّ لُجّةً

وقد نَحَرَتْها من مَطالعها الشمسُ

وقد نَحَرَتْها من مَطالعها الشمسُ

As when an eye beheld a deep expanse of the sea,

As an eye from the vast sea met a storm

While the sun had struck it head-on from its rising places.

And the sun slaughtered it at its rising
