لم يدْرِ ما أَلقى من الحبّ

لاحٍ خليّ العينِ والقلبِ

He knew not what I endure from love—

A reproacher, untroubled in eye and heart.

شوقي وكربي ما درى بهما

شوقي وكربي ما درى بهما

فإليه يا شوقي ولا كربي

فإليه يا شوقي ولا كربي

He knew nothing of my longing and anguish;

So go to him, O my longing—but not my anguish—

حتى تُقَلّبَ قَلْبَهَ حُرَقٌ

حتى تُقَلّبَ قَلْبَهَ حُرَقٌ

ويفرّ من جنبٍ إلى جنبِ

ويفرّ من جنبٍ إلى جنبِ

Until burning pangs toss his heart about,

And he flees from side to side.
