    And when the bodies met without suspicion,

    while souls within them had perished from longing,

    we gathered, with no offense ascribed to us,

    fruits of bliss, gathered when they are planted.

    And when the star rose, raising a banner

    with which light arrives and deep darkness departs,

    I sighed, alarmed at heart; yet it was only

    for the dawn that breathes that I sighed.

    ويا لَيلُ لا تُدبِر فإنّكَ مؤنِسُ

    So, O dawn, do not come, for you bring loneliness;

    and O night, do not depart, for you bring comfort.
