And a woman with a languid gazelle’s eye,

As though the magic within it were on the verge of slumber.

She has a spearhead of glances, whose shaft

Is a bough swaying with pomegranates of temptation.

Lovely of neck, she stands in such a form

That the sun marvels at its beautiful proportions.

She sighed with a glance and a word; through both, love

Wades into my heart through my eye and my ear.

Haughty in her coquetry, she never ceases to rejoice

When she sees me grieving over estrangement.

My movement and my stillness spring from her will,

As though the spirit of love for her were master of my body.
