And a keen, gleaming sword, whose edge cannot be warded off

by mail or shield on the morning when skulls are struck.

Its edge swiftly spews into the wound's mouth

the poison the Persians gave it to drink from their realm.

Whenever its sheath appears, I say, 'The sun has raised

a delicate mist above its stream.'

Its edge separates the head from the body,

even though the soul has not felt its blow.

So its stroke upon the adversary's crown is a funeral,

and its stroke in its owner's palm a wedding feast.
