Ah, many a cup that calls for every delight—

over which you ate my flesh all through your night.

Yes, had you been able, you would have made your drink

my blood, in cups carved from my bones.

Peace be upon you; kindle the fire of your war.

For I pour forth the water of my peace from my forbearance.

For if you eat flesh, I have consequences in store

that the consequences of injustice fall short of.

And I have a tongue that my nature has freed

from praise, when it restrained it from censure.
