إذا ذكر القضاة وهم شيوخ

تخيرت الشباب على الشيوخ

تخيرت الشباب على الشيوخ

When the judges are mentioned, old men that they are,

When the judges are mentioned, and they are elders

I choose the young men over the old.

I choose the youth over the elders

ومن لم يرضَ لم أصفعه إلاّ

ومن لم يرضَ لم أصفعه إلاّ

بحضرة سيدي القاضي التنوخي

بحضرة سيدي القاضي التنوخي

And whoever disapproves, I slap him only

And whoever is not pleased, I do not slap him except
