O my lord, may a servant’s lifeblood ransom you—

your servant, who deems his own life too little a sacrifice for you.

May he ransom you whose first distress you lifted

from him, and he whom you reached at his last breath.

Look at the day you would have resembled,

had your kind sprung from its kind.

It mirrors your generosity with its rain; and when it clears,

it is as though your face were what shone forth from its sun.

Yet you surpass it in that you always

endure, while this day follows its yesterday.
