فديت من مر في الرصافة بي

فقلت يا سيدي فلم يُجب

فقلت يا سيدي فلم يُجب

I would give my life for the one who passed by me in al-Rusafa.

I called out to one who passed through Rusafa

So I said, “O my master,” but he did not answer.

Saying "My lord," but no reply came back

واصفر غيظاً علي وامتزجت

واصفر غيظاً علي وامتزجت

صفرةُ ذاك اللجين بالذهب

صفرةُ ذاك اللجين بالذهب

And he turned yellow with anger at me, and there mingled

He turned yellow with rage against me

the yellow hue of that silver with gold.

And the yellowness of his cowardice mixed with gold
