I said, when my praise went forth in the morning and they gave no thanks,

And my censure went forth in the evening, yet they neither cared nor noticed:

علي نحت القوافي من معادنها

علي نحت القوافي من معادنها

وما علي إذا لم تفهم البقر

وما علي إذا لم تفهم البقر

My task is to carve rhymes from their quarries;

And what blame is mine if the cattle do not understand?
