A turd after a gurgle,

A weapon after much clatter

from the meatless stew's excrement,

Of fakery's arms -

باتت الليل كله

جوف بطني مخمره

spent the whole night

Spent the night churning

fermenting inside my belly.

In my gut's hollow,

ثم رامت تخلصاً

ثم رامت تخلصاً

فاغتدت ذات طرطره

فاغتدت ذات طرطره

Then it sought escape,

Then sought escape

and so it began to sputter.

And grew haughty and impudent,

ثم سارت كأسهمٍ

ثم سارت كأسهمٍ

عن قسي موتره

عن قسي موتره

Then it sped like arrows

Then marched like arrows

from bows strung taut,

From a taut bowstring's grip

فأصابت بوثبةٍ

فأصابت بوثبةٍ

جوف ذقن ابن سكره

جوف ذقن ابن سكره

and with a leap it struck

And struck with a leap

the hollow of Ibn Sukkara's chin.

The soft chin of a drunkard's son.
